Hamilton Academical manager Martin Canning criticised his players but conceded that Hibs were too good for his team following yesterday’s emphatic 6-0 defeat at Easter Road.

He claimed that it could have been a different matter had Adam Bogdan not produced a superb save to deny Rakish(Bingham) with the game goalless.

Former Hibs’ midfielder looped the ball into the penalty area deceiving Efe Ambrose and Ryan Porteous who both appeared to leave the ball to each other, leaving the ‘Accies’ striker one on one with Bogdan but the on-loan Liverpool keeper kept the score level.

After that it was one way traffic and in truth the scoreline flattered the visitors and Hibs could easily have ended up with double figures.

After the game former Hibs’ player Canning said: “Hibs were good to be fair but our aggression to go and get close wasn’t there.

“I think it would have been a different game had Rakish taken his early chance. It would have given us a bit of belief and made Hibs panic.

“But I’ve been on the end of poor results as both a manager and a player before and when you give a good team the chance to relax and enjoy it, you’re in big trouble and that’s what we did.

As performances go that was up there with the worst. It was unacceptable in terms of fight and commitment.

“That’s what we are known for and that’s what we are, a working club and a fighting club and some of the new players need to realise that.

“We’ve proved in years gone by that when we come here and compete we can win.

“But what hurts me inside is that we didn’t compete. That should be the easiest thing in football. If you can’t pass the ball you can’t pass the ball. But if you can’t compete, you’re in trouble.”
