Balerno Parish Church are organising a series of events to mark Remembrance and they start on Thursday, November 1 with a dedication of a Field of Remembrance and poppy fall in Balerno Parish Church (11am).

On Wednesday 7, Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November (10.30am to 7.30pm) an exhibition called VOICES: Stories and Memories will be held in Balerno Parish Church.

It will include story boards of memories and recollections collected.

Admission is free and donations in support of Poppy Scotland and Help for Heroes are welcomed.

On Friday, November 9 (noon) a talk called Listen Up! Aberdour and U-boat detection in WW1 will be given by Diana Maxwell in The Ogston Hall. Admission is free but the audience can donate in support of Poppy Scotland and Help for Heroes.

Balerno Village Screen present Journey’s End on Friday, November 9 (7.30pm) and admission free but donations are welcomed.

On Saturday, November 10 (7.30pm) The Trenches, Unforgotten Words and Songs from the First World War is staged and once again admission is free.

The event is scripted by John Burnside and is a mix of letters and newspaper pieces from the 14/18 war with songs from the trenches. Tickets are available from Balerno Parish Church Office or Balerno Post Office.

And on Sunday, November 11 (10.00am) there is a Service of Remembrance in Balerno Parish Church.
