The Borough Restaurant.
Let’s face it, Leith needs another restaurant like Stockbridge has a
shortage of Guardian readers but there’s always room for something
different.I am in the mood for change.
I love fine food but sometimes don’t want to make a whole evening of it. “Let me tell you about the tasting menu we had last week”
A sentence nobody but a masochist wants to hear. Not that I’m not partial to a tasting menu myself. They’re absolutely great for avoiding awkward conversations because
all you talk about is the food. “We need to discuss our divorce
settlement…” A ten courser it is then! “…and who gets custody of the
dog.” With wine pairings!
The Borough in its previous form as Norn used to be tasting menu
heaven and very popular it was too. Head Chef Darren Murray fancies a
change, however, and how’s this for an original concept: fine dining
that’s also fun? So you don’t have to devour six courses, you can
share (yes share!) one.At their opening Murray told me that he not only wants diners to enjoy the food but to have a great time.
After pinching myself I had to agree. With a cool, comfortable atmosphere
and Scandi-style edge the Borough is a relaxed but elegant venue.Original paintings by internationally acclaimed artist Steven Cox
adorn the walls. Patrons can see into the kitchen and be inspired by
the pretty dishes coming through the pass.Mussel and Gherkin Tagliatelle, Beef Tartare with Egg Yolk Confit, Oyster with Tomato and Bone Marrow. the key ingredients shine through here and each dish is
approached with delicacy and skill. As well as an impressive array of
spirits and a well crafted cocktail list, Borough has an extensive
selection of fine wines with over 20 available by the glass.
Borough are offering guests 20% off their food bill until 20 July 2018 as a thank you for welcoming the restaurant to the neighbourhood. If fine dining isn’t your thing, this new venture might just surprise you.
