Malleny Angling Association (MAA) host a special day so people can learn about fishing on Harlaw and Threipmuir Reservoirs.

Hooked on Harlaw is on Sunday, July 1 (from 10.30am) at Harlaw House and Garden next to the two reservoirs.

The event is free and the MAA, who administrate fishing on the two reservoirs above Balerno, have organised a fun-filled programme.

You can learn the delicate art of casting a fly line, see a fishing tackle display, watch a fly tying demonstration and learn how to clean and fillet trout making them ready to cook.

A trout BBQ will also be held where attendees can taste freshly-caught trout free.

Vanilla Pod catering, who are regulars at Harlaw Reservoir, will be on-site providing hot drinks, ice cream, baking and food.

And Natural Heritage officers will be on-hand to talk about activities and routes in the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

More information is available from Natural Heritage on 0131 529 2401 or email pentlandhills@edinburgh.gov.uk or Malleny Angling Association on 07944 550261 or email alan.mallenyangling@gmail.com

Meanwhile, the clock is ticking ahead of the Open Weekend at Edinburgh Angling Centre on July 7 and 8 at Granton.

Major tackle manufacturers will be there and demonstrations are promised along with discounts.

Anglers have been out in force at local reservoirs and rivers with good catches reported.

Glencorse boss Bill Taylor was on Facebook with a splendid trout, John Mackay also had a cast and ended up with 11 in one session at his Morton Fishings.

Social media has also been alive with pictures of anglers catching at Loganlea.
