Fourteen year-old Kira Noble leaves for the US today along with her mother Aud.
Kira has had neuroblastoma for the last three years and to give her the best hope of continuing life free from cancer she is to have life-saving surgery at the Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. During surgery in January it probed impossible to remove a growing tumour but an American specialist believes he can carry out the operation.
There was a massive fundraising effort which exceeded the goal of £340,000 just recently, and now the surgery has become possible.
The funds will cover the cost of travel and treatment along with a contingency fund in case of any unforeseen complications.
A spokesperson for Solving Kids Cancer said : “We are delighted that Kira and her mum Aud will be flying out to New York on Monday, so that she can have her surgery on Wednesday. It’s the next step in their long and difficult journey, but offers real hope that Kira can live cancer-free.
“When they arrive to New York they’ll be met by representatives from our partner charity the St George’s Society of New York, who’ll give them a warm welcome, take them to their hotel and first hospital appointment, and make sure that there’s a friendly face and listening ear whenever they need it during their stay.
“We wish Kira the very best of luck and we will be thinking of her and Aud in the coming days and weeks. Thank you once again to everyone who has supported their appeal, raising an overwhelming £437,595 to make this potentially life-saving operation a reality.”
We wish Kira the very best too.
