Hibs’ defender Ryan Porteous was delighted to secure the Development League and Scottish Youth Cup double with a 3-1 victory over Aberdeen at Hamden Park last night.

The youngster, who was rightly named ‘man of the match’ by co-commentator and former Hibs’ striker Tam McManus, scored the team’s second goal of the night and now he is looking forward to helping the first team secure second place in the league.

Hibs have high hopes for the defender who has featured regularly for the club this season and scored three goals.

After the game he told Sky’s Luke Shanley who was commentating on the game for the SFA: “I’ve said before that these are the two best 20s teams in Scotland right now and we both deserved to be here, it was just who turned up on the day plus a bit of luck.

“I’m just happy to get the double. We have had the final to look forward to for a while.

“It was a great ball, for my goal, I couldn’t really miss it.

“I thought that it had been coming throughout the game. There were two evenly matched teams and I think we just got the luck at the end of the day.

“We’ve been sitting at the top of the league for a while and we are all delighted to get over the line.

“The first team have four cup finals before the end of the season and at the end of the day that is what really matters.

“Tonight was a 20s night but we don’t celebrate this too much.”
