Scottish football legend Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed what all Hibs’ fans know: There is no better football celebration in the game than Sunshine on Leith.
Hibs’ fans save their version of the Proclaimers sons for celebrating high profile victories and renditions at Hampden following the 2007 CIS League Cup win and the 2016 Scottish Cup win were particularly memorable.
Speaking about the prospect of Scottish football turning it’s back on Hampden Park, Sir Alex told the Daily Record: ” The history of Hampden is riddled with fantastic games and that’s the point. You’re throwing away all those memories, even for Edinburgh sides.
“It’s only an hour to travel to Glasgow to see their country play. A couple of years ago when Hibs won the Cup and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there is a better football celebration ever in the game.”
Earlier this year, comedian James Corden shared a clip online showing Hibs’ fans singing the song. He tweeted “This is beautiful. Just beautiful. Sunshine on Leith sung by 50,000 wonderful people.”
Written by the Proclaimers brothers Craig and Charlie Reid, the song appeared on the 1988 album of the same name.
