Two popular local trout fisheries open their doors officially this weekend.
Karen Jack at Loganlea high up in the Pentland Hills is delighted that the weather has relented sufficiently and John Mackay at Morton Fishings near Mid Calder has re-stocked with several hundred fish being introduced.
Bill Taylor at Glencorse Reservoir is scheduled to open on March 24 but he has been busy at his bankside bothy preparing for the big day.
Rosslynlee Fishery near Rosewell has remained open throughout the winter but Steven Johnston has been forced to delay his opening at Clubbiedean due to the bad weather.
We’ll keep you posted on Steven’s opening dates but Cramond Angling club are among organisations who have booked outings at the popular water in the Pentland Hills above Colinton.
Now, over to the rivers. Permits for over a mile of the River Esk from the sea to the A 1 at Musselburgh are available from the friendly people at Ace Bike Co behind the Brunton Hall.
Cramond Angling Club and West Lothian Angling Association, who administer two beats of around 16 miles of the River Almond from Cramond to Kirkton in West Lothian, report healthy interest in their permits.
Both can be obtained from Orvis in Hope Street in Edinburgh, but remember that the fishing season on the Water of Leith does not open until April 1.
Permits are, however, free and can also be obtained from Orvis and the Water of Leith Centre near Slateford Station or Balerno Post Office.
