Police are asking fans attending the Hibs v Rangers match on Wednesday 13th December to behave responsibly and allow plenty of time for their journey.
The teams kick off their Premiership tie at 7:45pm with the match at Easter Road expected to attract a crowd of over 20,000.
There will be a high visibility police presence in and around the ground and throughout the city to ensure everyone’s safety.
Officers will also be supporting stewarding staff to conduct searches of those entering the stadium.
All supporters are reminded that officers will be enforcing Edinburgh’s drinking by-laws. Antisocial drinking in the street will not be permitted, and there will be a sizable police presence in the area.
Match Commander for the event, Chief Inspector Alun Williams said: “Ensuring the safety of all those who will attend the match is our priority, and it’s essential that supporters act in a responsible manner that does not put themselves or others at risk.
“As such, flares, fireworks or any controlled containers, which could cause harm if thrown, are strictly forbidden from the ground.
“Officers will be doing searches on approaches and at the turnstiles, and anyone carrying those items, or alcohol or attempting to enter whilst drunk, is liable to arrest and prosecution.
“The roads around Easter Road are always busy on match day, and a sell-out midweek fixture is likely to result in localised congestion.
“The turnstiles open at 6.45pm, and I hope those attending from outside the city especially will allow some extra travel time, and arrive early at the stadium.
“This is one of the most exciting fixtures of the Scottish football calendar and we want both sets of fans to enjoy the game safely, and in the proper spirit.”
