Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon has admitted that Hamilton deserved their victory at Easter Road yesterday which ended the team’s perfect start to the season.

Almost 17,000 fans packed into the stadium expecting another win but despite Hibs dominating the latter part of the first half, the visitors took control after half-time and took the lead with a 51st minute penalty.

From then on Hamilton were content to sit back and hit on the break which worked perfectly.

Accies doubled their advantage following a mistake in the Hibs’ defence and added a third flowing some sleek play.

A late Anthony Stokes goal added some respectability to the final score.

After the game Lennon said: “I thought there was a flatness about us and the better team won. Hamilton were streetwise, they were smart and they defended far better than us.

“We’ve had a great start to the season, a lot of nice things have been said about this team, but we were nowhere near the finished article, and we are still nowhere near the finished article and is a harsh lesson for the players.

“There wasn’t one player I could say came out with any credit apart from my goalkeeper. The rest let the game pass them by and that is a worry.”

There was no crispness, no final ball of genuine quality and it’s something I need to look at.

“I’ll take responsibility. I’ve been sort of not been myself in terms of staying on the backs of the players over the week – and that won’t happen again.

Hamilton boss Martin Canning who previously played for Hibs said: “I’ve had some good days here, and today was no exception. It was probably one of our most complete performances since I’ve taken over.”
