On Saturday evening around 6.35 pm a 10 year old boy was struck by a motorcycle while crossing Ferry Road at a pedestrian crossing. the boy sustained serious injuries and is in the Sick Kids where his condition is described as ‘serious but stable’.
It has now been confirmed that the motorbike was stolen and the driver has so far not been traced. Police Scotland held a press conference earlier this afternoon to issue a plea to the public for information.
Chief Inspector James Jones told The Edinburgh Reporter first of all that the boy was being cared for by the hospital and his family, and that his mother had described him as a ‘wee trooper’. He continued : “We are looking at all lines of enquiry. Because we are still looking for the offenders I would appeal to the public to provide any and all information that they have as soon as they possibly can through the appropriate means either by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers. ”
Chief Inspector Jones confirmed the details of what happened. He said : “It was at 6.35pm on Saturday evening at the pedestrian crossing which crosses Ferry Road directly outside the shops just prior to the police station.
“We do know that the motorcycle that was involved in the collision was a stolen motorbike, believed to have been taken at some point between 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock that day. We are clearly adding that to the lines of enquiry that we are seeking to progress.”
Those with information can contact Edinburgh’s CID via 101 and quote incident number 3247 of the 19th August. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Officers executed two search warrants in Granton Mill March and Wardieburn Place West yesterday evening Sunday 20August 2017 when they detained and subsequently charged a 20-year-old man with an unconnected offence.
He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow Tuesday 22 August 2017.
