Six community groups in Edinburgh are celebrating after being awarded charitable grants totalling more than £1,800 from Asda stores as part of the latest round of Green Token Given donations.
St Columba’s Hospice, Victoria Primary School, Edinburgh City Mission, The Rock Trust, Squirrel Club, and Natural Play Project have all received a share of the cash.
The scheme allows customers at Asda stores to pick groups and causes close to their own hearts to gain vital funding boosts.
Edinburgh groups are awarded funds based on customers dropping a green token into one of three boxes, one for each shortlisted charity, and then at the end of the charity period, the charity with the largest amount of tokens receives £500 and the remaining two each receive £200.
St Columba’s Hospice provides specialist care and support to people with terminal conditions across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The Hospice, which receives £500, has an inpatient unit as well as a dedicated space for day therapies, for outpatients, and a community services team.
Victoria Primary School is the oldest working school in Edinburgh, and receives £200 for its role in playing an important part in the life of the community.
The Edinburgh City Mission is a charity group that looks to build authentic relationships with people, sharing our lives with them, so that Jesus’ love for them would be made known.
The group, which receives £200, offers a network of eight food banks across Edinburgh and, beyond just food, provides emotional and spiritual care so as to care for the whole person, not just the body.
