Following last month’s news that The Scottish Government and Historic Environment Scotland is to grant £650,000 of funding for fabric repairs to the historic Georgian concert hall, the Board is not letting the grass grow under its feet.

The Board of The Queen’s Hall has set up a Patrons Group to promote the historic venue to a wider audience.  Recently they held their inaugural meeting at The City Chambers chaired and hosted by the Lord Provost the Rt Hon Donald Wilson.

The Board will use the government funding to make repairs and improvements to the fabric of the building, but this is very much seen as step one in an ongoing development programme. They hope the plans will secure the future of the Hall for artists and audiences, and they also have an aspiration to further develop educational and community use of the space.

Patrons will be invited to a number of networking briefing throughout the year, as well as an annual dinner.

Those who have already committed to becoming a member of the Patrons Group include

  • Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea, Principal, Edinburgh University
  • Alexander McCall Smith
  • Dr William Duncan
  • Mark Mackie, Regular Music
  • Tudor Morris, Edinburgh Music School
  • Bruce Findlay, Music Promoter
  • Christine de Luca, Edinburgh Makar
  • Phil Cunningham, musician
