Jason Cummings believes that he couldn’t have written a better script for last night’s derby victory over Hearts in front of a packed Easter Road last night.

The youngster opened the scoring in the 20th minute, his fifth goal in his last six derbies then set up team mate Grant Holt for the second.

Andrew Shinnie made it 3-0 before Hearts pulled one back after Esmael Concalves was brought down inside the box by Darren McGregor.

Speaking to a packed press room after the game Cummings said: “I just feel like we wanted it more. We have players that know what it means to play in these games and for the fans. I look at their team-sheet and I don’t think they know what it means compared to us.

“I always enjoy these games. In the morning I’m buzzing, I can’t wait to get out there so I couldn’t have written a better script. We were different class from back to front.

“I got my goal and set one up so personally it was good, and overall it was brilliant. This is definitely up there with our best wins.

“I played with a smile on my face and the boys in there deserve that. They work hard. The bookies made us favourites – and they are never wrong! Everything just went to plan.”

Lennon publically criticised Cummings and John McGinn after a lacklustre performance against Raith Rovers at the weekend but he had no such complaints after last night’s display.

Hibs turned down a £1.8million bid from Peterborough for Cummings at the start of the season but following his efforts against Hearts, Lennon claimed that wouldn’t be enough to buy the striker’s bad  leg.

He continued: “He just said that in here?  That’s a bit of a statement because my right leg isn’t the best although I don’t know how much the left is worth.

“It wasn’t just me,  the gaffer came for the whole team because we were really poor at the weekend, but today we were a team possessed. Unbelievable.

“I get frustrated as well because I know myself that I was poor on Saturday and I need someone to keep telling me.

“We all need that consistency and we can beat anyone if we do. Maybe we need to get more motivated for the games with not as many fans.”

When asked if Hibs can retain the Scottish Cup, Cummings did not hesitate. “Can we win it again? Definitely.

“It’s not like we have any pressure, we’ve got the monkey off our back.”
