Earlier today Edinburgh Labour launched their new manifesto which they hope will take them to victory in 2017.
For the last four years they have run the administration in the City Chambers in coalition with the SNP and made some changes from the previous SNP/LibDem administration. They introduced webcasting of all main council meetings, a petitions committee, a revised Audit committee and have now introduced the transformation programme by which more power is devolved to local areas.
They have published their draft ideas which is published in full for you below so that you can have your say. The document says that this is your chance to have direct influence on their thinking.
One area where they need the agreement of the Scottish Government is that they would like to introduce a Tourist Levy to raise funds that would help with the city’s infrastructure. So far that move has been resisted at Holyrood.
The six themes in the draft manifesto are:
- Planning for Edinburgh’s Growth
- Young People and Education
- Affordable Housing for all
- Care and Compassion in our Society
- Jobs and the Local Economy
- Your Local Environment
The Local Elections take place on 4 May 2017.
