David Gray

Hibs’ skipper David Gray says that the confidence amongst the team is high following their comprehensive win over Queen of the South at Easter Road yesterday.

The result leaves Hibs three points clear of Dundee United at the top of the Championship with a vastly superior goal difference and the team meet in two weeks time at Tannadice.

With no game next weekend due to the Scottish Cup, Gray insists that the break will allow Neil Lennon and his staff to work on organisational tactics and also allow some players to regain their fitness ahead of the top of the table clash.

Speaking after the game to Hibernian TV, Gray said: “A win like this has been coming for a number of weeks, we’ve been playing quite well but not really taking our chances.

“We’ve been saying that our quality in the final third has let us down at times, but today was a great result, four goals and it could have been more, and pleasingly another clean sheet.

“When you have strikers who thrive with balls into the box that’s what they did today.

“We are in a good position at the moment. We’ve been playing really well for the last seven games.

“Next week’s break gives us the chance to work on things in training and use the opportunity to work on organisation and things like that and players  who haven’t been playing can use the two weeks to work on their fitness.

“It would have been difficult had we come off the back of a poor result but the confidence is high and there is real competition for places.”

Gray also gave credit to his team mates for taking their chances: Brian (Graham) took his goal well. He never gave it up but he took his chance but Holty (Grant Holt) will be disappointed but it’s the manger’s decision.

“John McGinn would run through a brick wall for you. He’s had this injury for a while now but he still managed to put in a fantastic performance today.

“My goal was a decent finish but if you are being honest I don’t know of John (McGinn) meant to put his corner to the near post. We always work on that and someone has to get across the front post. I was delighted to get into that area and it was just a wee flick.

“It was a great finish from Martin (Boyle) and I was delighted for him as he works so hard. You have to be in these positions to miss them.

“he gets on things no one else would because of his pace and anticipation and he fully deserved his goal because he worked his socks off.

“It shows great credit to his character. he could have felt sorry for himself especially at half time. he could have sat there thinking about the chances he missed but great credit to him he was able to pick himself up for the second half.”
