TER 2014_01_04 Thistle Street Fire - 17

Around 50 firefighters tackled a large blaze at a ground floor property on Lower Granton Road last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 7.15pm and two residents were trapped inside their house.

Firefighters used breathing equipment to rescue the pair who were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

One was kept in hospital overnight for observation, and their condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Lower Granton Road was partially blocked throughout the night but police have confirmed that the street has  now reopened.
