On Saturday 18 June 2016 the annual Edinburgh Canal Festival gets underway. Everything will be very much as last year with a home-made raft race at the centre of the festivities and music and food on the sidelines.
There are free boat trips, face painting, water walkers and a garden party at Polwarth Church.
It all gets underway at 12 noon and will go on all afternoon on the canal just behind the bars at Edinburgh Quay.
The City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Canals and EDI all sponsor the event.

Edinburgh-based Trystan Davies and his partner Stuart ‘Pockets’ Crout co-wrote a film called The Cupcake as part of the 48 Hour Film Project. The duo won a best writing award 2016 and along with the prize they get tickets to the opening night Gala at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on Wednesday night. They say they are very excited!

Also on Saturday 18 June the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra will be on the stage of the Usher Hall. The orchestra only play six concerts in the UK each year so if you want to see them now is your chance.
The inaugural concert of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra was on 20th March 1980 in the Music Hall, Aberdeen. Since that time the Orchestra has settled into a sequence of six or seven major concerts each year in
- the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
- the Usher Hall, Edinburgh
- the Music Hall, Aberdeen
- Perth Concert Hall
- DG-One, Dumfries, and
- a major venue South of the Border (e.g. York Barbican; The Sage, Gateshead).
Saturday’s concert is at The Usher Hall, Edinburgh on
Saturday 18th June 2016 at 7:30pm

Edinburgh stands with Orlando in St Andrew Square on Wednesday 15 June 2016 at 7pm.
Following the horrific events at a gay nightclub in the Florida city on Saturday night the LGBT community in Edinburgh want to show their support for those affected.
Over 600 people have signed up to the event organised by Inclusive Networks.
