At two very special events this Friday 13 May, Edinburgh will celebrate the best and brightest of European poetry. Edinburgh City of Literature’s European Literature Night will include 12 European poets and 3 local poets taking to the floor at North Edinburgh Arts and Summerhall to explore the diversity of cutting edge literary talent on the continent.

At a time when the focus is often on the politics of the European Union, this event asserts the vitality of our shared culture through its selection of poets from across the continent, including Russia, Germany, Turkey, France, Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Italy and more.

The evening will kick off at North Edinburgh Arts in Muirhouse, where from 5-6.30pm each poet will perform a short five minute set to give a taster introduction. There will also be an opportunity to cast two lines into the ”POETRY STATION”, which will become part of a collective poem launching later at Summerhall.

The North Edinburgh Arts event will be followed by an extravaganza performance at Summerhall from 8pm – 10.30pm, where the poets will read different sets.

The evening will culminate in a collective reading of EUROPOEM, a collaborative never-ending poem that will have its debut performance.
