A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act following a significant drugs recovery in Edinburgh.

Following intelligence gathered by Divisional Pro-Active Unit, detectives detained a male and searched his home address in Morrison Street on Monday which resulted in the recovery of cocaine with an estimated street value of £28,000.

He appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 17, and was refused bail.

Detective Inspector Alan O’Brien of Gayfield CID said: “This recovery has delivered a serious blow to organised crime in Edinburgh and should serve as a reminder to anyone involved in the production and supply of illegal drugs that we will do everything in our power to ensure you are swiftly brought before the courts.

“I’m delighted that as a result of our investigation we have successfully prevented thousands of pounds worth cocaine from reaching our streets.

“We remain committed to tackling drug crime in the city and I encourage anyone with information relating to crimes of this nature to please call us on 101. All information will be treated sensitively and discreetly.

“Alternatively, you can make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
