Free school meals are available as a part of the package to place pupils in alternative accommodation while their schools are closed. But the council have also explained that another kind of financial help is available to families who are affected. This statement is on their website this morning:
We have been made aware that some families who rely on free school meals approached city food banks as a result of schools being closed. As such, funds from the Scottish Welfare Fund will be made available to families in need.
Funds will be distributed to affected families directly, via school head teachers, as pupils return to school arrangements.
Families in severe crisis can apply for a grant online via this fund or by calling
0131 529 5299
We envisage all pupils returning to school arrangements by Tuesday 19 April.
