Glasgow City have almost certainly secured the Scottish Women’s Premier League after beating Hibrnian Ladies 2-0 at Albyn Park Broxburn on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Hayley Lauder and Erin Cuthbert gave Glasgow the three points and after the game, Hibs’ manager Chris Roberts told the club website: “First and foremost I want to congratulate Glasgow City, They are worthy champions.
“We weren’t at our best, not terrible, just not our usual selves and City deserve the credit for that.
“I couldn’t fault the effort, desire or determination from the girls and I am immensely proud of all of them.
“We hit the crossbar and had a few chances but on the day we didn’t get the breaks that we needed. On another day they would’ve gone in and it would’ve been a different game.
“We are a young team and that maybe showed today as City used their big-game experience well.
“I told the girls afterwards that nothing I said would make them feel better because we are all hurting just now, but I wanted them to know and told just how proud the whole coaching staff were of their efforts all season.
“We are all hurting because the league dream is over but the season isn’t and we have a massive opportunity now to go on and win the Scottish Cup.”
