Officers investigating the firearms incidents in Gilmerton on Saturday 20th September last year have carried out searches of three properties on Friday morning (13 February).
Addresses were searched under warrant at Stenhouse Gardens North, Loganlea Avenue, Edinburgh, and Baxters Neuk in Tranent, and a number of items seized for further investigation.
A firearm was also recovered from a rural area in the vicinity of Gifford, East Lothian and this firearm will be the subject of forensic examination.
A 26 year old man has now been arrested and charged with firearms offences and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday (16 February).
These searches formed part of the investigation into a firearms incident in Gilmerton on Saturday 20th September when shots were discharged at a parked vehicle within The Murrays Brae around 9.30pm and a suspicious, but non-viable, device was left.
A few minutes later shots were discharged at a property in Gilmerton Dykes Drive and another non-viable device was left at Walter Scott Avenue.
Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “We are continuing to follow a positive line of enquiry and demonstrating that we will stamp down on those involved in organised crime.
“We’ve now recovered a firearm from East Lothian and a man has been charged with firearms offences. The owning of illegal firearms will not be tolerated and we will act on information we receive in order to crack down on this illegal activity in order to get them off the streets and to make our communities safer.
“I’d like to thank members of the community for their patience and we have been greatly assisted by information coming in from the public. The owning of illegal firearms will not be tolerated and we will act on every piece of information we receive in order to crack down on this illegal activity.
