Hibs took a giant step in the race for promotion yesterday with a comfortable win over nearest rivals Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.
With Falkirk beating Hearts at Tynecatle, the results leave Hibs five points clear of the Bairns and six clear of Queens.
As Rangers game against Cowdebeath was postponed, Alan Stubbs’ men are now ony two behind the Ibrox team.
After a quiet first half, Hibs came alive in the second and goals from Dylan McGeough and Scott Robertson secured the points.
Afterwards Head Coach Stubbs told Cliff Pike of Hibs TV: “I’m delighted. it’s probably the most pleased I’ve been with a result for quite a while. There is a lot of satisfaction with the result. to come here where I’m pretty sure a lot of people were expecting us to trip up and first half I didn’t think there was a lot in the game and I didn’t think we were at the level we had been in recent weeks.
“I spoke to the players at half time and reinforced the need to lift it and the need to win more second balls and show a little bit more quality on the ball when we got into decent areas.
“At times in the second half when we did that it led to Scotty (Allan) geting on the ball and playing Jason (Cummings)in down the side of him.
“I thought that we control it and we dictated the play. I thought that the lads at the back were outstanding and gave us a real platform to go on and win the game.
“There’s pressure on us to keep winning. I’m not interested in what the teams around us are doing because as long as we keep on winning it’s irrelevant. I have the utmost respect for the teams around us but I have more respect for what we want to do and have been doing.
“The players are full of confidence at the moment.”
