From Cathleen Hunter
I thought you might be interested in hearing about Euan Hunter who is currently attempting to cycle the 48 mainland USA States, supported by a team of 3 friends.
Euan (22) , from Hermiston, is a former pupil of Currie Community High School. Five years ago when he left school aged 17 he cycled solo and unsupported across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax in record time, raising awareness and money for the Scottish Charity, Mary’s Meals.
Now having just completed a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Edinburgh University he is attempting to set a new world record for cycling the 48 states of the USA, again raising awareness and money for Mary’s Meals as he goes.
This time he is accompanied by 3 friends, Duane Walker, Kenneth Errington and Iain Skinner, the support team, who are also completing a concurrent road trip by car. Duane is the technical and mechanical expert for the team, Kenny the health and nutrition expert and Iain is the IT and media expert who has set up their website www.48StateCycle.com . Euan’s progress can be tracked on the website or followed on Twitter.
The website also contains a link to the charity Mary’s Meals which provides a basic daily meal for chronically hungry school children in developing countries. Euan and the team are hoping to raise enough money to feed 480 children for a year (10 for each state that they visit), by donations made to Mary’s Meals through Just Giving on their website.
Euan started the cycle on Monday 19th May and has so far completed over 2582 miles and 13 states. He is hoping to complete the cycle in less than the current record of 60 days, but still has a long way to go.
I realise that you may not be able to sponsor Euan and the team, but any support that you can give by way of highlighting their efforts to help them reach their target for Mary’s Meals would be greatly appreciated.
