Further to this morning’s tragic incident at Liberton High School, the Council has issued the following statement:
Andy Gray, Head of Schools and Community Services, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our pupil at this tragic time. This is obviously a very distressing time for all pupils, staff and the community here at Liberton High School.
“We are offering welfare support to anyone who needs it and we will be co-operating fully with Police Scotland and the Health Safety Executive to try to establish what’s happened.”
Cllr Paul Godzik, Convener of Education, Children and Families, added: “I was devastated to hear of this morning’s tragedy at Liberton High School and my heart goes out to the pupil’s family, friends and fellow students.
“Our focus now is on providing emotional support to those affected by the incident and, we will, of course, be working closely with Police Scotland and the Health & Safety Executive to establish the cause.”
The school will remain closed for the remainder of this week (and until after the Easter break), except for any pupil seeking emotional support and for S4-6 pupils in need of tutorial support ahead of their forthcoming exams.
