Two first half goals from on-loan winger Abdellah Zoubir helped Hibs’ under-20s secure a valuable three points against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park last night
Midfielder Euan Smith added a third to give the visitors a 3-0 lead before a late goal from Saints’ Craig Thomson rounded off the scoring.
After the game Head of Academy Coaching James McDonaugh told Hibernian TV: “ “I think we took maybe 10 minutes to settle into the game, but certainly from there to half-time I thought we were really good and good to watch.
“We passed the ball well, scored a good variety of goals and that 35 minutes before half-time I thought we were really good. In the second half I thought we done most of the hard work in the first half and we were quite.
“The only disappointing thing was to lose the goal with four minutes to go, but overall, I think we more than merited out victory.”
The result leaves Hibs third in the table however the league position is not McDonaugh’s main priority and he insisted that his main goal is to produce first team players for the club and not win youth team titles.
He continued: “Our main aim and objective is to get players from the youth team into the first team and I think the manager has been pleasantly surprised with what he has found since he has come in.
“A lot of them have been in and training with the first team and the manager has never said that any of them have been out of their depth and that is a good thing. A few of them have been up and played and a few of them regularly.
“You would need to ask the manager his own views, but I think he has been pretty happy with what he has seen.”
Hibs’ EOS are back in Central Taxis First Division action on Saturday with away match at Eyemouth, kick off 2.30pm.
