Children from Royal Mile Primary School and senior students from George Watson’s College were joined by a line-up of Edinburgh born and based professional athletes at Holyrood Palace this morning to launch The City of Edinburgh Council’s upcoming ‘School Run and Tryathon’ event on 14 June 2014.
Miss Scotland Jaimey Bowers was also at the photocall this morning, although we are sure she will not be taking part in the run wearing the high heels that she wore today!
The athletes in our photos include:-
– The ‘Edinburgh Accies’, Scotland’s longest running rugby team
– Willy Wood, professional lawn bowler and double Commonwealth Games gold medallist
– Frania Gillen Buchert, leading ladies squash player
– Evan Oliphant, professional cyclist and Commonwealth Games 2006 representative
– Martin Campbell, professional badminton player in training for Glasgow 2014
– Nicki Cochrane, Scotland and Edinburgh University Hockey Player
– Craig McEwen, Professional Middleweight Boxer
– Amy Regan, professional gymnast in training for Glasgow 2014
ABOUT THE SCHOOL RUN AND ‘TRYATHON’
- The first ever School Run will begin on Saturday 14 June 2014 at 12:30PM and the Meadowbank Tryathon will be open from 10:30AM until 5:00PM
- Participating Tryathon sports include: Rugby 7’s, hockey, athletics, gymnastics, judo, wrestling, lawn bowls, shooting, cycling, badminton, weightlifting, netball, table tennis, boxing, squash
- Entertainment at the event will include food stalls from Taste of Scotland and Scotmid, dance performances, and commentary and music from the Forth One Roadshow
- Food, refreshments and entertainment will also be available at Meadowbank Stadium for runners and spectators to enjoy
