Edinburgh Airport remains closed and has announced that it is not accepting incoming flights
The public have been advised not to travel to airport but should contact their airlines for more information.
This news follows the discovery of a suspect package within the terminal building at 1.50pm today.
The Edinburgh Reporter understands that a male passenger was stopped by security staff and his baggage is being examined.
As at 16:30 emergency alarms were still ringing in the terminal building.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police at Edinburgh Airport have implemented a closure of the building and the access roads following the discovery of a potentially suspicious bag within the central search area at around 1.50pm today.
Reacting to the news, MSP for the Edinburgh Western Colin Keir said ‘This is very concerning news for travellers and all those working at the airport. My thoughts are for their safety. At this stage it is best to let the security services do their job by identifying the threat and dealing with it.’
