Hospitality Management graduates from Edinburgh College will be able to complete degrees in Canada under a new agreement with Vancouver Island University.
From next year, students who successfully complete the HND in Hospitality Management at Edinburgh College will have the opportunity to continue on to year three of Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) four-year Hospitality Management degree.
The partnership, the first of its kind for the college, will provide a new option for college students to undertake a degree qualification, as well as giving them the opportunity to study abroad.
Emma Meredith, international director at Edinburgh College, said: “I am delighted that we can offer this global pathway to our students. This agreement paves the way for students to achieve a truly international education. Our students will be trained in the hospitality industry on an international scale, enabling them to fully stand out in the graduate job market. Students will also benefit from living in another country and experiencing another culture. Such experiences will be invaluable to students throughout their learning journey and beyond.”
Bruce Condie, director of international marketing, recruitment and business development at VIU, said: “We are very excited about our collaboration with Edinburgh College as it represents an important step towards the internationalisation of our university. We strongly believe that the presence of international students enhances the learning experience for all VIU students. As a result, all students are better prepared to succeed in the globalised workplace.”
As the first of Edinburgh College’s global pathways articulation routes, the collaboration is expected to lead to similar agreements with other international universities for more of the college’s courses. The aim is to promote global citizenship by creating new education opportunities.
A number of students from this year’s HND class are expected to apply and the successful applicants will begin their two years at Vancouver Island University from September 2014.
