Equality campaigners today celebrated the publishing of the Gay Marriage Bill at the Scottish Parliament. It is not likely to be debated until October, but it appears to have cross-party support and is widely expected to become law next year. It has taken five years for the Equality Network to get to this historic date. The Bill will allow religious groups to opt out of the law and so, if any minister or celebrant does not want to conduct the ceremony, they will be not forced to do so.
