Gordon Macdonald MSP recently visited the site of illegal dumping on the outskirts of Hermiston village. Strewn around the field adjacent to the road was an assortment of garden rubbish, an old suite and a mattress.

Gordon said:- “I am dismayed that people think that it is acceptable to dump their unwanted furniture at the side of the road, especially as there is a community recycling centre in the Sighthill industrial estate half a mile away which is open midweek to 7.30pm and at weekends to 6pm AND which can be used free of charge.”

“I would urge anyone who witnesses illegal dumping to contact the council environmental wardens either by phoning 0131 529 3030 or by emailing env.wardens@edinburgh.gov.uk.”

The City of Edinburgh Council also operates a bulky uplift service which charges £19.99 for a maximum of 6 items; garden waste is charged at £30.00 for up 28 bags and building materials are charged at £30.00 for up to 15 bags.

A special uplift can be arranged by contacting the above number.
