New West Lothian Angling Association (WLAA) chairman, Scot Muir, reports that the fishing season on their stretch of the River Almond appears to have started well.
Season ticket sales, he added, have been favourable so far with approximately 130 sold to date.
Neil Irvine, the club secretary, indicated that Jack McCaig is among the anglers who have done well, catching a stunning brown trout.
He added: “I’ve heard of a quite a few fish of up to 2lb getting caught on the fly and the Euro nymphing seems to be doing well with pheasant tail nymphs scoring. It also would be worth casting a spider.”
A total of 151 fish were hooked at Linlithgow Loch (51 kept, 100 released) with a total weight of kept fish amounting to more than 140lb.
Weather conditions have not been the best with wind gusts and rain, and secretary Tom Lambert suggested the most effective flies and lures have included blob, diawl bach, cormorant, dancer, muskin, snake, UV crunchers and UV lures.
Among the successful anglers were Mr Adams and partner who kept four fish for 14 lbs and released ten. Steven Lawson and Matt Neilson individually had a great day, Steven kept four trout weighing 11lb and returned six while Matt kept two fish for 5lb and released eight.
Jimmy Russell out with Gavin Dunn returned eight rainbows, and Ian Dobbie with James Russell returned 20 trout while Freddie Paddon released 11.
Linlithgow Loch is restocked regularly, with updates posted on the fishery’s Facebook page and boats are available for either a full-day or four-hour session.
