Billy Wilson had 17 fish in one session at Bowden Springs, near Linlithgow, at the weekend with buzzer and FAB patterns doing the damage.

His best fish was a 7.5lb brown trout and Billy jun also joined in the fun with eight. His biggest was a 6lb brown on FAB and cormorant patterns.

Drumtassie near Blackridge has been busy with John Aird hooking into 34 during a session and big numbers were also posted at Newlands Tweeddale near Gifford in East Lothian.

Mick Mulgrew (Danderhall) had 18 on a pink bung and Kevin Walkinshaw 16 on FAB and buzzer with Tommy Dickson (Dunbar) recording six on bloodworm and buzzer.

Back in West Lothian, Linlithgow Loch bosses report a 4lb 13oz rainbow trout caught by a member of the Waders AC on a Di3 line and a snake pattern. Unfortunately, the club did not leave the name of the angler.

Mr Kelly and friends out in out in three boats returned 23 fish, John Walker and friends in two boats returned 26 while Steven Borwick with his boat partner returned six fish. Mr Skedd, fishing from the North Bank, returned five.

The catch returns were included in the weekly return when more than 20 boats were launched with 22 fish kept weighing 69¼ lbs and 109 fish returned.

Midge-tip, sink-tip and intermediate lines plus Di3 lines used with blobs, cormorants, black/green lures, Humungus and snakes, especially pink, were the successful set-ups according to Tom Lambert, secretary of the Forth Area Federation of Anglers (FAFA) who administer the water.

Other noted catches were Marty Nelson, who returned five rainbows, Ken Wood, who kept four for 12lbs 10oz, Andy Lumsden who kept four weighing 12½ lbs, while Gavin Dunn and Jimmy Russell returned ten trout and Robin Smith with George Mackintosh kept one fish and returned six.

Ali Fyvie out with Jimmy Russell returned eight trout, Mr McAdam and his boat partner returned six rainbows and the FAFA continue ton regularly stock the water.

Elsewhere, the season has officially opened at the Lake of Menteith with Still Game star Paul Young preforming the opening ceremony.

West Lothian Angling Association (WLAA) hosted their first fly tying evening of the season in the Tower Bar, Craigshill, Livingston. It was well attended.
