Michael Cichy netted less than seven minutes from time to earn Fife Flyers a welcome win over Manchester Storm in the Elite League.

His strike after 53min 38sec lifted the majority of the 1,137 fans in The Fife Ice Arena and raised their favourites to eighth position in the ten strong table.

Phelix Martineau opened the scoring for the home side after 2min 44sec but Storm levelled through Gianlucca Estevez on the power play in 14 minutes with Lucas Chiodo in the sin bin for hooking.

Flyers edged ahead again 13 minutes after that with Martineau on the mark again but back came Storm after 35 minutes to level at 2-2.

Cichy’s strike kept the points at Kirkcaldy and Fife travel to Nottingham Panthers on Sunday (16.00) also in the Elite League.

Elsewhere, Glasgow Clan beat Dundee Stars 5-2 at Braehead in the Challenge Cup in front of more than 2,800 fans and they were 4-0 ahead after the first two period but Stars hit back to win the third period 2-1.

On Sunday, Stars host Sheffield Steelers (17.00) in the league.
