The Hibs Development Squad were beaten on penalties by Albion Rovers in the first round of the SPFL Trust Trophy at Ainslie Park last night. 

Guillaume Beuzelin’s youngsters were captained by Kanayo Megwa who was the only member of the starting XI over the age of 18. 

The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Dom McMahon. fired a right-footed effort into the bottom corner.  

Hibs equalised three minutes later when a superb free-kick from Reuben McAllister beat the Rovers’ ‘keeper and found the back of the net. 

There was no more scoring in the first half then eight minutes after the restart Rovers took the lead again from a Callum Home header. 

But Hibs fought back and drew leven when Josh Landers set up Jamie McMurdo and his left footed effort found the net. 

In the 79th minute McMurdo grabbed his second of the game with an excellent left-footed finish from a tight angle. 

Rovers had the chance to equalise after the referee awarded a penalty when Adam McMillan went down in the area.  

Michael Paton stepped up but his effort was brilliantly saved by Freddie Owens. 

Then in time added on Paton made up for his penalty miss and found an equaliser in the last minute of added time. 

The game went straight to penalties and Megwa and McAllister both had their spot-kicks saved, which saw Albion Rovers win 4-2 on penalties.
