Fancy a cast in a competitive sea angling match? Well, the Bass Rock Shore Angling League host the eighth leg of their Winter League at North Berwick on January 3.

It’s a Rover match so you can pick your mark after registering at North Berwick Harbour between 6pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday and fishing is from 7pm to 10pm.

Scales close at 10.20pm and only sizeable fish should be brought to the weigh-in. There is a £10 entry fee and a 100 per cent payout and non-members are welcome.

Secretary James Ogilvie confirmed that there are prizes are for the heaviest fish and heaviest bag and high water is 7.29pm.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh angler David Cooper retained the Edinburgh Winter Shore Angling League title sponsored by The Edinburgh Angling Centre, The Fishing Megastore and Cox and Rawle.

Cooper was fourth in the final round at Newhaven which was won by Gordon Lyall with 31 fish, the same total as Ian Campbell who was second witgh Chris Empson third.

Cooper, however, accumulated 38 points over the seven matches. Gavin Owen was second five points behind with another Tyneside-based angler, Stevie Souter, third on 32 points.
