Hearts entertain St Mirren in the cinch Premiership on Saturday (kick-off 15.00) and Alan Forrest said that the 2-0 victory at Celtic last weekend provided a lift for the club on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Aberdeen in their previous league outing.

The 27-year-old former Livingston forward (pictured by Ian Jacobs v Hibs at Tynecastle) said it was important for the Jambos to bounce back after the Pittodrie disappointment and he added: “We treated Celtic as just another game and we prepared the same.

“We started well in the game and we stopped them (Celtic) from getting in our box. That was massive for us. We were able to get up the pitch and that set the tone.

“We were playing against a really good team and I felt the team played really well and everybody did their job. If you are going there (to Parkhead) to win then you need all 11 players playing at the top of their game. I think everybody was.”

Irvine-born Forrest said it was some result for the team and looking forward to their schedule – St Mirren on Saturday, Hibs away on December 27 (20.00) then Ross County at home on December 30 (15.00) before a trip to Livingston on January 2 (15.00) – the forward added: “We are going into an important period now.

“Hopefully, we can perform. We look at the next four games before the break and it is one game at a time.

“You are not getting an easy game in this league and you cannot look too far ahead. You know that every game will be tough but you know that over the next four they are winnable games and we are looking to get as many points as possible.”

Focusing on St Mirren he said have had a fantastic start to the season and he added: “They are not there for luck and they are there on merit. We know what to expect on Saturday so we need to be on top of our game.”
