In August streaming services will be showing some original and possible hit films along with returning hit television series.
Amazon Prime Video
Released on 7 August 2020, ‘Boyz in the Wood’ follows four city boys across the Scottish Highlands as they try to complete The Duke of Edinburgh Award unscathed. Having undertaken the expedition myself, this comedy film is of particular interest to me. With Eddie Izzard (Victoria & Abdul) in the cast, the film has already achieved a British Independent Film Award nomination before its release. Expect small budget creativity at its very best.
Netflix
After three series on Fox from 2016 to 2018, ‘Lucifer’ was cancelled but resurrected for a fourth series on Netflix last year while the first half of the fifth series will debut on 21 August 2020. Tom Ellis (Miranda) plays Lucifer, based on the DC Comics character, as well as his brother whom will be introduced in this series. A sixth and final series is also due to complete the story after the release of the second half of series five. With the last four series receiving a 100% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, expectations are high for the next instalment of this urban fantasy.

Fantasy film ‘The One and Only Ivan’ will be released on 14 August 2020 with Bryan Cranston (All The Way) in the live-action leading role as the Big Top Mall owner of caged up Ivan the silverback gorilla, voiced by Sam Rockwell (Fosse/Verdon). Angelina Jolie (Gia), Danny DeVito (Taxi) and Helen Mirren (Catherine the Great) also feature in the voice cast as an elephant, dog and poodle, respectively, who help to change life at the shopping mall.
In Scotland I attended Dunfermline High School from 2010 to 2016 and Edinburgh Napier University from 2016 to 2020, emerging with two Advanced Higher and five Higher qualifications from the former and graduating with an undergraduate bachelor of arts honours degree in journalism from the latter. After two years away from further education due to the coronavirus pandemic, I'm going to be studying the MFA Photography course at York St John University in England from 2022 to 2024. I've achieved The Duke of Edinburgh’s (Bronze) Award and received grade five level certification for electronic keyboard from Trinity College London. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, watching television series, listening to music and going to the cinema as well as catching up with friends, travelling by railway and hostelling overnight and overindulging in food and drinks in a pub or restaurant then having to go to the gym to burn it all off again.
By studying journalism and photography, my aim of practicing photojournalism professionally will hopefully be once step closer. Both are partial artforms requiring the rest of the work to be undertaken by the audience, the specialism of photojournalism, however, providing each of its two parts with greater context. Exploring photographic techniques (aerial, timelapse, editing) through a variety of journalistic styles (features, poetry, songwriting) will allow me to develop my portfolio, hone my camera skillset and narrow my focus further in anticipation of working life. Without a global pandemic to deal with this time. Fingers crossed.
