Four of the branches of Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh are to close this year.
The branches at Dalry Road, Greenside, Liberton and Tollcross will all close as part of the plans announced this week by Lloyds Banking Group.
Only last month Managing director of Bank of Scotland,Tara Foley, said the bank is “committed to the branch network”.
No Halifax branches in Scotland will close.
A Lloyds Banking Group spokeswoman said: “We are committed to having the largest branch network in the UK and, in addition to our branches, all our customers can also use the Post
Office to access their banking locally, alongside our mobile branches which visit many rural communities.
“We have confirmed that a number of branches will close between April and October this year.
“This is in response to changing customer behaviours and the reduced number of transactions being made in branches.”
Ian Murray MP said that the news of the closure of the Liberton Drive branch was ‘incredibly disappointing’. He said on Facebook : “I have asked that the bank engage directly with those who do not use internet banking and will be most affected by this decision. Please also share with any friends or relatives who use the branch – most banking can continue to be done at the Post Office on Liberton Gardens.”
The remaining Bank of Scotland branches in Edinburgh are Barnton, Cameron Toll, Comely Bank, Corstorphine West, George Street, Morningside, Newington, Newkirkgate, Portobello, Royal Mile, Shandwick Place, The Gyle, and Wester Hailes.
