46 businesses received gold, silver and bronze awards in the 2019 Best Bar None Awards held at Tynecastle last night.

This is a scheme which ensures that bars are given due recognition for supporting a safe night out.

The Edinburgh Award recognises premises which might not have won in their category but show long term commitment and improvement. This year’s winner is The Terrace which has won the Gold award for the last four years. It has established itself as a community hub and works closely with the police and licensing standards officers to embody the values of the Best Bar None Scheme.

Cllr Norman Work, Convener of Edinburgh Licensing Board, said: “Best Bar None is an extremely valuable scheme, giving well-deserved recognition to the many licensed premises that strive to improve the experience for people in Edinburgh.

“This year’s scores for participating venues were higher than ever before, demonstrating the efforts to make it a safe and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Well done to everyone who took part!”

The scheme is sponsored by Diageo, Heineken, Tennent’s, Chivas Brothers Pernot Ricard and Edrington Beam Suntory, with the Edinburgh awards ceremony, held at Heart of Midlothian Football Club, which also provided support.
