Hibs’ Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom admitted that Motherwell deserved their three points yesterday and claimed that he was ‘frustrated’ by the display.

After a promising 20 minutes from Hibs, Motherwell opened the scoring against the run of play then added a second from the penalty spot to effectively secure the victory.

A third goal in the dying minutes just added salt to the wound and sparked fury from the Hibs fans who sang a song demanding that Heckingbottom be sacked.

The result leaves Hibs in ninth position, two points above the relegation places and the fans are already frustrated about Heckingbottom’s summer signings.

After the game Heckingbottom said: “Motherwell were better than us in the final third and they dominated set-plays. It’s obvious for me what we need to change and how we need to do it.

“We’re short in key positions. We’re stretched in the full-back areas and I know for a fact Motherwell tried to exploit that. We can’t hide that, can we? It’s been a big frustration to me.

“We demand better, especially in one-on-one situations. A pretty team got dominated today in key moments. We worked hard but we were too easy to play against.

“Some of the players are under-performing but it will improve, without a doubt. It’ll be reflected in the teams I pick and the business we do in the next transfer window.

When asked about the criticism from the travelling supports he responded: “That’s the nature of the job, it’s what you get paid to take. I don’t get carried away when they’re chanting my name so I won’t get carried away then I’m getting booed.

“I thought the fans were great, I could hear them all game. They probably thought, like I did, at 1-0 down we were in the ascendance and it was coming.”
