Hearts have added to their squad for the forthcoming season by signing striker Conor Washington. The Northern Ireland internationalist has signed a two-year contract at Tynecastle following his release from English Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old can count Newport County, Peterborough United and Queens Park Rangers among his previous clubs and Hearts manager Craig Levein will look to Washington to bring some additional firepower to his team who have struggled to score goals when their talisman Steven Naismith was injured.
Washington told the official Hearts website: “I’m hoping a fresh start and working under a manager who believes in what I can do will see me reap the benefits.“
“As soon as Austin MacPhee – Hearts Assistant Head Coach – suggested coming to Hearts I went to my agent and did a bit of background research and it just seems like an absolutely perfect fit, especially to work under the manager and with Austin as well.”
“It’s been a tough few years for me, personally. I think last year I played about a combined 600 minutes of football at club level which is just not enough for the player that I am.“
“I’ve never been one to just sit on a wage. The path I’ve had into the game doesn’t really allow for that.“
“I want to be playing every minute of every game, scoring goals and hopefully I’ll get the chance to do that.”
Hearts begin their pre-season schedule with a friendly match at Arbroath this Saturday.
