Scottish Conservative members have selected local resident Dan McCroskrie has their candidate for the forthcoming council byelection in the Leith Walk ward.
The by-election comes following the resignation of Labour councillor Marion Donaldson.
The Scottish Conservatives just missed out electing a councillor in the ward at the local elections in 2017.
Dan McCroskrie works as an office manager in Edinburgh and lives in the ward, just off Leith Walk.
Following his selection, Dan McCroskrie said:“I am delighted that local members have selected me to contest this important by-election.
“It is clear that local residents are being sold short by an SNP/Labour Council who are inflicting damaging SNP Government cuts and reducing local services. At the same time, they are hitting people hard in the pocket with higher taxes.
“Now we find they want to disrupt Leith Walk for a further four years by spending over £200m and rising on extending the trams. We Scottish Conservatives would rather use the available funds to refurbish local schools, fix our roads and pavements, improve our bus services and invest in community projects.
“I will stand up for hard working local residents if I am elected to the council.”
Council Conservative Group Leader Cllr Iain Whyte said: “As a local Dan knows the issues that concern Leith Walk residents. He will be a great champion for them.
“This by-election is a chance for Leith Walk to reject the failures of the SNP/Labour Council with their shambolic bin service and failure to deliver social care to many of our most vulnerable people. I urge the voters of Leith Walk to support Dan and give a verdict that they want to see real change in the City Chambers.”
