Edinburgh councillor Scott Arthur is often outspoken. Anyone following Edinburgh politics knows that.

He has his own views, and is very happy to write about them.

He wrote an article on his blog this morning which apologises unreservedly to Justice Minister Humza Yousaf for a tweet he sent out yesterday.

There was a widespread belief among the Twitterati that Cllr Arthur’s Twitter account had been hacked. It had not. He admitted that he had indeed tweeted a poll which some who read it construed as racist content.

He writes on his blog : “I can see that placing the survey on Twitter without the context of the two arguably contradictory interviews was a mistake.”

Here, he explains his motive for the poll

Independent Councillor Gavin Barrie said : ‘I may not agree with much of what Cllr Arthur says or how he carries out his political role as an elected member, but I always judged him as politically astute.

“It would appear my judgement was flawed. This Tweet shocked those of us in both local and national politics, and not only those of us who might oppose Cllr Arthur’s political point of view.

“His unreserved apology is welcome but doubts will remain about why he thought this tweet, judged racially motivated by many, was ever appropriate.”
