Jardine secures Ministerial assurance on Edinburgh Airport

Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, Christine Jardine, has secured assurances from the UK Government that they will monitor the situation regarding Edinburgh Airports flight paths and ensure balance between communities and the airport.
Ms Jardine has had a debate fixed  in the House of Commons regarding the Edinburgh Airport flight paths.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rejected the flight path proposals submitted to it by the Airport earlier this week.
Jesse Norman MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, responding on behalf of the Government thanked Ms Jardine for raising the issue and stressed the need to ensure balance between the economic benefits and the impact on communities that are overflown.
Following the debate Ms Jardine said: “We all know that the operation of airports inevitably impacts surrounding residents with such high levels of noise but the impacts of aviation must be mitigated, in consultation with those are impacted most.
“My concern, and the concern of many of my constituents was sparked by a call from another constituency to have the final decision ‘called in’ by the Secretary of State for Transport. I am glad that the Government has recognised that one community should not be sacrificed for the benefit of another.
“I will continue to work with the community and the airport to find a compromise that does not result in undue burden on one area.”
