Hearts have been dealt a double injury blow with the news that defender John Souttar and striker Uche Ikpeazu will be out of action for up to five months.
Souttar, whose performances in maroon have been outstanding this season and resulted him playing for Scotland in their recent internationals, has a hip injury. The former Dundee United player has been told to rest for the foreseeable future.
Ikpeazu returned from injury in Hearts first defeat of the season, a 3-1 loss to Rangers the weekend before last. However, the former Cambridge United player has been told he will require an operation on his foot.
These long-term absences, added to the injury lay-off of captain Christophe Berra, are a major setback for Hearts after such an impressive start to the season.
