These two-storey dwellings are a unique architectural feature in Edinburgh. They were originally built in the 19th century to provide quality homes for the city’s artisan workers.
The exhibition was the idea of resident artist Gill Smith, inspired by the Pittenweem Arts Festival where artists also open up their homes to the public. The first Abbeyhill exhibition, in 2005, featured nine artists.
“The number of exhibiting artists has grown every year,” says Katherine Chisholm who, with her husband and fellow artist William Mazur, has organised 11 of the subsequent exhibitions.
