You are invited to Maggie’s Culture Crawl Edinburgh on 21 September  for  a charity fundraiser with a difference.

Sponsored by Brodies LLP the event is a 10 mile walk with exclusive night time access to some of Edinburgh’s old and new buildings such as Dynamic Earth, the Biscuit Factory and the Scottish Poetry Library.

There will be entertainment along the way from the Buick 55’s, and jazz duo, Let the Bird Out. The event will finish off with hot chocolate and pizza at Summerhall.

Andy Anderson, Centre Head of Maggie’s Edinburgh, said “Discovering our city as the sun sets and taking in its sights and cultural gems is quickly becoming a calendar highlight. As a charity Maggie’s Edinburgh relies on donations to continue to develop our unique, high quality programme of support. I really hope the local community gets behind this event to help us support as many people living with cancer, as well as their family and friends, across Scotland.”

As the number of people living with cancer increases it is essential that they are able to find the practical and emotional support they need to cope with the changes that life after cancer brings. Maggie’s Edinburgh offers a way of living well with cancer. This includes ensuring that people with cancer in the region are really listened to, that they are offered tailored individual support, group support and practical advice, all delivered by qualified professional within a space that enables them to meet other people who understand what it means to be living with cancer too.

All of the money raised through Maggie’s Culture Crawl Edinburgh will help ensure that Maggie’s Centre continues to provide free, professional support to all those living with cancer who need it across the region.

Carol Hudson, 54, was diagnosed with a brain tumour nearly five years ago. After initial treatment, Carol thought she was well again, however, in 2016 the cancer returned for a second time and this time it was incurable. Carol started to attend Maggie’s during her radiotherapy and describes it as her ‘second home’.

The mum-of-two has taken part in the Edinburgh Culture Crawls for the past two years as a way of saying thank you for the support Maggie’s has given her and her family.

Carol said: “Cancer is a debilitating disease but if you strive to do your best then, hopefully you can. The Culture Crawls are such good fun. The walk itself is physically challenging but you get to see the city and it’s venues in a new light; you see inside some of the places you may just have passed along the way and get to know the history of them and there’s lots of fun, food and entertainment along the route.”

Carol added: “The services that Maggie’s are able to provide are absolutely brilliant. Maggie’s is just an amazing place. They make you realise that there are plenty of reasons to be getting up in the morning and there’s still plenty to smile about. I would walk over hot coals for them!”

Maggie’s Edinburgh is offering £5 off registration of the Edinburgh Culture Crawl for anyone who registers to take part between 1-7 September.

Maggie’s has a network of Centres across the UK and 11 Culture Crawls will be happening up and down the country in September with the aim to raise £500,000 to help support people living with cancer.
