Hibs’ Development Squad continued their fine form with a 3-1 victory away to Greenock Morton in the SPFL Reserve League yesterday.
Lewis Allan opened the scoring after just 35 seconds following great work by Thomas Agyepong.
Morton equalised in the 13th minute through Denny Johnstone but 12 minutes later the on-loan Ghanaian winger restored Hibs’ lead.
Grant Murray replaced Agyepong, Danny Swanson and Fraser Murray with teenagers Ryan Shanley, Gregor Woods and Ruari Paton during the second half as Hibs controlled the game.
Hibs wrapped things up near the end when Ben Stirling’s cross found Shanley, who headed in his second goal in as many matches as Hibernian sealed a deserved 3-1 win.
After the game Stirling told Hibs Media: “It’s been a good start. We had a bit of a slip-up away to Dundee in the Irn Bru Cup, so it has been good to bounce back with two comfortable wins against Partick Thistle and Morton.
“Against Morton we had a great first half and we should have been maybe two or three goals up, but we made up for it in the second half when we got the goal that killed them off.
“They were applying a bit of pressure at the start of the second half, so it was good to get the goal towards the end that gave us a bit of breathing space.
“It was a good performance overall.
“I think I’ve done well. I’ve been playing centre-back instead of centre-mid which has been a wee bit of a change, but I have just got to get on with it and I feel like I’ve done quite well at it.
“I like playing in the midfield as you can get on the ball a lot more, but at the back it is still good. I have got quite a good range of passing and you get a bit more time on the ball at the back. Wherever Grant wants to play me I’ll play. As long as I play I’m happy.
“I was still able to cross in for Ryan’s goal – I don’t know what I was doing up the pitch though! The ball broke from a corner and I crossed it into the area and fortunately he was there to put it into the net.”
